Bionic eye in Australia

(ANSA) – SYDNEY, 30 Aug Australian specialists have successfully implemented a Bionic eye prototype in a woman suffering from profound visual impairment, retinitis pigmentosa, an inherited disorder. It is the first time in the world this device is implanted behind the retina.

The woman has recovered to some extent view when the prototype, introduced in may in hospital in Melbourne, was activated. The device was designed by a team from the Institute of bionics.
