P(ANSA) – Vatican City, April 27 – John Paul II and John XXII were “two brave men,” Pope Francis said in his homily at their canonisation Sunday. “They were not afraid to bow to the suffering and scourges of mankind, thus bearing witness to God’s bounty and compassion,” Francis said.BRThe two popes lived through some of the most catastrophic events of the 20th century and also suffered personal illness and suffering – particularly John Paul during his long and painful decline due to Parkinson’s.
