Retired general jailed for almost 5 yrs for drug dealing
(ANSA) – Milan, December 13 – The Milan Court of Appeals on Friday sentenced retired General Giampaolo Ganzer to four years and 11 months in prison for running a drug-trafficking operation with other officers from 1991-1997.
The ruling reduced the original 14-year sentence handed down in July 2012, when the former commander of the Carabinieri military police’s anti-racketeering and anti-terrorism unit (ROS) was convicted.
He also received a 65,000 euro fine at that time.
Ganzer, a ROS commander from 2002-2012, was convicted of leading a gang of rogue Carabinieri who trafficked cocaine, heroin and hashish.
